The Myths

The sperm has to be kept hot
The reality is that the sperm although chilled or even cold will continue to remain active for up to 36 hours, for home insemination if you use the sperm within three hours of it being produced it still has the same chance of getting you pregnant as sexual intercourse.

It is only 3mls of sperm that's not enough
The average ejaculation by abstaining for a period of no longer that 72 hours will provide up to 10cc of sperm, this volume decreases once the first ejaculation has taken place, so if your donor is providing more donations two days in a row, it is likely that his second donation will be smaller in volume.

Less volume does not mean that your chances of conception are any less it really does depend on the quality of the sperm, the sperm count and motility.

My donor has children so he is bound to be fertile
Fertility in men can drop as they get older, it is also governed by lifestyle changes, so the fact that the donor has fathered before is not to be taken for granted, you should always ask your donor to be fertility tested before you use him. See testing

My donor lives to far away so we constantly need to travel
Using our Bio trans transportation containers the sperm still remains alive and well for a period of up 36 hours , in tests carried out it has been shown that the motility and count does not decrease significantly in that period see bio trans ( link to bio trans page )

Why do I need a fertility test?
You are embarking on a process that will be an emotional roller coaster for both you and your partner , the worst thing of all would be to take fertility for granted at the outset and not be tested , the testing process is simple to use and does not require a visit to your own doctor , it will provide you with an accurate fertility reading at the outset which will enhance your chances of becoming pregnant.
